Social Media

To achieve my personal development point on social media alongside James we decided to create an example Facebook page to demonstrate how we would produce content for it and the style of content that we would produce for it. It also allowed me to experiment with creating a short-form video.

In terms of the content that we put on the page, it was relatively straightforward and wasn’t overly complex to me making two short-form clips from parts of the podcast to try and get people to listen to the podcast in full, however we did not want to publish the podcast to the world so didn’t include a link, this page is purely to serve as a demonstration.

It did allow me to social media skill as I have published on social media before, but not video content and it allowed me to experiment, it also allowed me to see that if I want to be able to make it in radio this an area I would need to work on as my captions are not overly good and I don’t really know what language I should be using to target Radio 1’s audience.

In the future, I would also film the podcast and release the best bits in terms of video as video instantly does better. To do this in future we would utilise a 360-degree camera in the middle of the room recording everything meaning that we could make the content more interactive and as a result get more listeners. I also was really struggling to find the content from the podcast to put up as I was worried that we could have copyright issues due to us not owning the right to the clips. However, the process did do what it was supposed to do as it allowed me to develop my understanding of social media and improve my skills on premiere pro even if they were basic videos that only had an image and audio embedded within it.

Myriad

Myriad is the playout system that is used in the radio studios in MHT bar studio 3, which is the one we intend to use for our project, however studio 3 doesn’t have myriad, but if the programme was to be broadcast on Siren it would be outputted via Myriad meaning it is advisable to know about it.

Myriad uses a cart system, with each cart being a piece of audio that can be played out via the 3 playout slots.  Myriad also has a cart wall function, which allows you to view any piece of audio within Myriad.  Myriad also has a ‘clock’ function which allows you to put audio into a specific time zone e.g 1pm on Tuesday. This audio can then be set to be live assisted or not, what this means is that the audio is automatically played straight after the other item has finished, for example a jingle straight after a piece of music. Or you can disable live assist which makes the audio stop instantly after it, meaning that the mics get faded up afterwards for a live segment of the show.  How we would have used it if we had it installed in studio 3 was by utilising it to play out the clips we wanted via the drag and drop method rather than by utilising the clock.

Week 4 meeting

This week we again met with Dylan to discuss our idea, the main conversation topic was about us attracting contributors for the project as we had only managed to get one contributor and we hadn’t seen her in a ‘comedy’ sense.  This lead to the meeting mostly being about potential people we could get in contact with about the project, Dylan suggested that we contacted a lecturer and BBC journalist Matthew Gull.as he apparently has a dry sense of humour and would be willing to do this. Alongside this certain groups based in Lincoln were suggested such as the comedy society and the comedy clubs that exist in Lincoln.
